THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME AND COACHING AT PCLL
We know that volunteering to coach can be one of the more time consuming and daunting roles at Platte Canyon Little League. But, it can also be rewarding and actually not that hard. We have your back and want to help you be successful. It's all about having fun, from Tee Ball, all the way up to Seniors, if you know how to have fun with sports and can be a positive role model in these kids lives, please consider coaching!
All coaches must register as a volunteer on the PCLL website and agree to a background check. There is no cost to you.
We ask that all Minor League coaches, and up, attend our assessment day, participate in the team selection process and attend a coaches meeting. This usually occurs in late February.
All Tee Ball and Coach Pitch coaches will attend a separate coaches meeting in early April.
Coaches will need to complete the following certifications:
Concussion
Abuse Awareness
Little League Diamond Leader
First Aid/CPR
Below are a few notes to help you be successful in this position:
- Communication - Once you receive your roster, set up a team account on the GameChanger app. Get the parents involved with communicating their planned attendance at practices and games so that you can quickly set up rosters and keep everyone involve in using the app to communicate.
- Field Maintenance - Please make sure the fields are raked and drug after every practice and before/after every game. Please make sure all equipment and bases are returned to their storage location after every practice and game; and that the shed and porta-potty is locked before leaving. Have your team conduct a trash pick up after every practice.
- Home Team Responsibilities - Home team uses the 1st base dugout. The home team is responsible for lining the fields, setting bases, and providing game balls. For interleague games, the home team is also responsible for raking the field.
- Visitor Team Responsibilities - Rake around the bases, home plate, pitcher mound, and primary infield position locations. For interleague games, offer to help and be a good neighbor.
- Equipment - You will be issued an equipment bag at the beginning of the season with helmets, bats, catcher gear, and a first aid kit. You will also receive a bucket of practice balls. Game balls will be issued at the start of the season.
Little League International has developed a complete practice program for Tee Ball and Coach Pitch coaches to use as a resource. Please see the below links as they provide an excellent starting point for you to use as you develop your own practice plan.
